Music Pavilion in Zhongshan Park
In 1922, the Shanghai Public Band was renamed Shanghai Municipal Council Symphony Orchestra, a professional band in the Shanghai International Settlement hailed as the "Best Orchestra in the Far East".
To create performing venues, the Shanghai Municipal Council built open-air music pavilions in 3 major parks in the Settlement.
The music pavilion in Zhongshan Park was built in around 1924in the shape of a quarter sphere designed to produce optimal acoustic reflections on the top, equipped with a British-style bandstand at 17 meters wide and 8 meters high.
The original pavilion was destroyed in the "Cultural Revolution", and what you see now is a replica rebuilt as historically recorded.
