According to historical records, the original Bronze Bell was cast in New York in 1865 and shipped to Shanghai in 1881, serving as the city's first fire-alarm bell at the Central Fire Station in the Shanghai International Settlement.
Later the bronze bell was moved into Zhongshan Park in 1922 but went missing during the "Mass Steel Campaign" in 1958.
What you see now is a replica of the original Bronze Bell.
