Shanghai Maritime Vocational & Technical College
Shanghai Maritime Vocational & Technical College is a regular institution of higher education to train specialized personnel of a variety of disciplines with a record of formal schooling. It was formed with the approval of the municipal government of Shanghai by affiliating to China Shipping (Group) Corporation.
The College owns a lot of modern facilities, which include classroom buildings, laboratory buildings, library, dormitory buildings and outdoor swimming pool. Among the facilities, there is a large-scale ship simulator, an engine room simulator, a steering gear lab. a newly-equipped computer lab, an LPG simulator lab of the first rate in China, a welding training center with UNITOR welding equipment donated by Norway, a multi-media language lab, and several audio-visual rooms.
At present there are six departments and the college is authorized to offer programs covering 23 disciplines, including one national teaching reform program for higher vocational specialties and two municipal reform programs, one national quality course and two municipal quality courses. The college currently has over 6000 full-time students.
Shanghai Maritime has cooperated with the Norwegian Ship owners Association and the Institute of joint schools started introducing the college-level education concepts of cultivating the seamen to satisfy the needs of the International Seamen's labor market. The College has been given the most comprehensive permits to train seamen in China by providing more than 110 trainings. Every year, nearly 10,000 seamen at the management and operational levels come here and upgrade themselves in both the professional and special training programs.
Shanghai Maritime Vocational & Technical College has been honored as the "Model Units of Supervisory Committee in Vocational Education (Sailing)", the "Municipal Model Unit of Vocational Education", and the "Model Unit" issued by Shanghai Municipality, etc.
